After much discussion and thought, the Commissioners have made the difficult decision to once again forego the Summer Youth Program this year. Despite the vaccine becoming more available to the public and the Governor relaxing the restrictions on athletics, indoor and outdoor gatherings, inside dining, entertainment venues, etc. there is still the need to take precautionary measures to protect against the continuing spread of the coronavirus. Our residents have done an excellent job as well as our businesses in protecting against the spread of the virus despite the spike in numbers between October 2020 and March 2021 where we are seeing a leveling in cases and hopefully a decline in any new cases.

In the best interest of the health and safety of our youth the cancelling of the youth program is just another way to help keep them safe from the virus. It is the hope of the Commissioners that possibly as we move forward and the gathering of citizens comes with less chance of the continuing spread of the virus, we may be able to be creative and offer some alternatives to our teenage youth to learn the value of commitment, pride and involvement in your community and when we work together as a team there is much that can be accomplished to preserve the beauty and history as well as grow to meet the challenges of a changing environment, the changing needs of the community and be accepting of the many diverse people that are the very fabric of our existence.

So we ask your patience and understanding in the tough decisions that must be made by the Commissioners as they continue to do what is best for the health, safety and welfare of all of our residents. The Commissioners will revisit this often as we move through the next several months and watch how this virus pandemic continues to affect our everyday lives.
