“The insufficient resources and poor planning on the part of the Burlington County Board of Elections when it comes to administering yesterday’s election, were unacceptable and disgraceful.
We thank every voter who showed up in historic numbers and waited patiently to exercise their right to vote. However, no voter should ever have to wait hours.
City officials were in touch with county election workers throughout the day, but unfortunately relief came too little too late and had no discernible impact on the voters who waited patiently until after 11 PM to exercise their right.
Unfortunately, Bordentown City was not alone. This appears to have been a county-wide issue, and an anomaly statewide, given that the rest of New Jersey had relatively few issues.
As residents, taxpayers and voters, we must demand better. We are calling on county officials and the Commissioner Board to conduct a full accounting of the failures of this election and take the necessary steps to ensure that this never happens again.”
