November 12, 2024 Update
Bordentown City – Public Property, Streets, and Water

Highlights: (a) City is repaving Carpenter, Leyden, Myrtle, Borden, and Hopkinson this week.  (b) City is continuing to implement its corrective action plan and investing in the water plant (more info below). (c) Sidewalk repairs (just like snow removal) are the responsibility of the private property owner (except for the shade tree commission and water department/repairs) and will be presenting a financial note which will fund the 2024 program, the second reading is tonight; and (d) The water department will be updating its asset management plan. 1.    Roadways

a.       Maintenance bond phase: Second, West, Oliver, Union, and Brooks.    

b.       PSEG Gas: The 2024 construction is completed but working on a punchlist (like Carpenter and Union). PSEG also submitted permits for its 2025 work plan.

c.       NJDOT Application (1 of 4): Repaving for Carpenter, Leyden, Myrtle, Borden, and Hopkinson started yesterday. Completion will be this week.

d.       NJDOT Application (2 of 4): City was awarded a grant for repaving segments of Burlington and Prince Streets. Design is next (while coordinating the water design).

e.       NJDOT (3 of 4): The City was awarded design funds from NJDOT for streetscape improvement along Park Street. The city had a productive kickoff with the county.

f.        NJDOT (4 of 4): The City was awarded $217,000 for repaving funds for Elizabeth Street (community outreach will be first quarter of 2025).  

2.       Projects

a.       Parks/Recreational Facilities:

                                   i.      Gym at Divine Word: Presenting a resolution for new fire alarm system

                                                 ii.      Oliver Street Park: Punchlist is still ongoing.

                                                           iii.      Second Street Park: Working on the punchlist.

                                                           iv.      West/Borden City Lot: Community outreach is next.

                                                             v.      Ann Street: Finalizing bid specs on the residential phase and scheduling resident meetings thereafter.   

3.       Water Department:

a.       Water Plant Upgrades:

                                                               i.      All current water levels and pressures have been good. No issues reported  

                                                             ii.      The city's contractor successfully installed the motors and variable-frequency drives (VFD). They are now fully operating and have been for a few weeks.   

                                                           iii.      Well #1: Earlier today, city obtained state approval for its water sampling. 

                                                           iv.      Well #3: City approved a drilling contract last month.

                                                             v.      We are presenting a contract tonight to replace the original service pumps in the plant’s basement (approximately 45+ years old)

b.       Leak detection services: The consultant completed this survey throughout the entire distribution system and the department is working on the identified leaks. 

c.       Water use restrictions: We are just informed today that the restriction has been lifted.  

d.       Emergency Interconnection: City used this temp connection in Hamilton for 36 hours.
